Hearts
on Fire

Jimmy boy lived in the hills of South Dakota
He’d always buy you a drink with the money that he owed you
Then he’d sit all night and play
And the little girls’ hearts would just melt away
He sang it for real, they like to hear it that way
He had a way with the ladies and they loved him back
He knew just one desire
Tune your guitar to your guardian star
Set their hearts on fire, set their hearts on fire
Now and again in a traveling band, you hit a roadhouse by the river
You be singing up high when some cowboy’s eye
Catches yours and it makes you shiver
I met Jimmy Green that way, and I had to laugh come the break of day
Cause of that traveling man underneath that little baby’s face
When the summer wind finds a certain bend
I think back to the days I traveled
And my Jimmy boy and the kind of joy
That his mystery unraveled
When the nights get soft and warm
I sing to Jimmy then and it’s never long
Til that pirate smile takes over every song
